The sound quality of this Sony headphone compares favorably to the pricier models, so save yourself some money and buy it.
PUT YOUR TRUST IN COMMON ENGINEERING AND DESIGN SENSE. When you do break your first pair I wish you luck in attempting any amateur electrical repair via splitting, fraying and retwining of the copper L and R's since these are tightly embbeded into fibers inside the rubber.
As you begin to listen to the superlative kick and definitive sound dimensions you become somewhat estranged by the long bouncey cord that seems to have no end to it that you must keep it held at all times for the instant knowing that it could so easilly tear is allways at some subtle level of your awareness (but your not really thinking too concretely about that becauze your assumption is that there must be some neo-stylistic advantage to cord sleekness). First purchase of these headphones in a Canadian store for about 80$ and you know your getting middle-range to elite quality from the grandmaster SONY.
Otherwise, the juxtaposition of high fidelity sound, comformt and compactness against the flimsy untenuable cord rubber is sickening. If you own a small cat this is probably a good item to buy it as a christmas present since they love to chase and chew on these kinds of long, bouncey, rubbery cords.
Only affter having spent 160$ on a second replacement pair of these phones do you come to your senses and fully recall that the flimsy INTERNAL ELECTRICAL CORD rubber is being used in a hybrid fashion to support an EXTERNAL use. DO NOT BE FOOLED, THERE IS NOTHING COOL OR FUTURISTIC ABOUT WEARING THICK RUBBER OVER YOUR EARS AND HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT IT BREAKING WHEN YOUR SUPPOSE TO BE ENJOYING YOUR MUSIC.
PUT YOUR TRUST IN THE AMERICA-FREE SONY OF JAPAN.
I've had these headphones for about 2 years and are great for the average casual music listener. Mids and highs are clear and seem to sound pretty good from my novice perspective. The ear cups swing in and up for portability, but they dont fold flat.
They are a nice mid-sized, not too big not too small, ear cup. I usually keep mine bundled up with a rubber band so it's not all over my workspace.SOUND:These are no BOSE, but given that and the low cost.the sound is actually very good. COMFORT:I primarily use them at work, and finally found these that are comfortable enough to wear for long periods of time.
The cord is VERY long. They are not over ear cups, the padding will rest on your ears.but they are good enough to not be uncomfortable after hours of listening. The band is sturdy and the size does not squeeze on my head.STYLE:Nice and not overly bulky like the over-ear headphones.
Bass is respectable but not earth-shattering. I listen to all sorts of music and haven't noticed any distortion at any range and only sometimes wished for a little more bass.
The headband is flimsy, but it took me 5 years to break them, but in a way that a simple wrapping of electrical tape fixed it perfectly. I've used these nearly daily, mostly at work, but some home and travel, for about 5 years now, and they've served me fabulously.
If you're used to any earbuds, these are hugely better. If you're used to audiophile quality headphones, these might be worse than some of those (I don't know, I never owned any).
These are $30 headphones everyone, not $200 headphones. I'd agree with others that say that they don't give loud bass, but it is quite clean.
I can say that I'm just about as happy listening to my music collection (all genres) on these as on my much more expensive stereo system. They are extremely clear, with good response range.
They are comfortable for my ears. I'm sure that I'll use them for another 5.
When they worked, the sound was very good. After wearing them for a few hours, the outer-upper part of my ears started to hurt. I used them in my office, plugged into my computer and I liked the long cord, which allowed me to move my computer around. As for comfort, they are decently cushy but the shape and size were not for me. Recently, one ear stopped working. I didn't transport them much, so the folding mechanism seemed wasted on me and in the end, may be why they are not so durable.
